Daily Loss Limit Calculator — How Much Risk Is Left Today

A daily loss limit is a separate rule from max drawdown, and it resets on its own schedule. Enter today's starting equity, your daily loss limit, and your current open P&L to see exactly how much room is left in today's session before you hit it.

Frequently asked questions

Rarely. Most futures prop firms reset the daily loss limit at a fixed time in the evening (commonly around 5-6pm Eastern, tied to the futures session rollover), not at midnight and not on a rolling 24-hour basis. A trade placed after that rollover time counts against the next day's allowance, not today's. Check your own firm's agreement for its exact reset time -- this calculator treats it as a single day's snapshot and does not assume any particular reset schedule for you.

Most firms count your full intraday equity swing, including unrealized (open) P&L on positions you are still holding, not just closed trades. If you have an open loss on a position right now, enter it as a negative number in "current open P&L" -- that is what actually determines how close you are to the limit at firms that mark-to-market intraday.

Most firms treat hitting the limit exactly as a breach, not a warning -- this calculator reports "remaining" as $0 and flags it as breached rather than showing a small positive buffer. Some firms build in a small buffer above the stated number before actually closing your positions; that mechanic is firm-specific and not something this calculator assumes.

No -- they are two separate rules that most funded accounts carry at the same time. The daily loss limit resets each trading day and only cares about today's result. Max drawdown (trailing or fixed) tracks your account's equity against its lifetime high or starting balance and never resets. Use the Prop Firm Drawdown Calculator for that second number.

Futures trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. This calculator is for illustration only — it does not guarantee your firm's actual determination of a breach. Confirm your account's exact rules against your firm's own agreement. Full risk disclosures.
