Prop Firm Drawdown Calculator — See Your Real Buffer

Prop firms calculate trailing drawdown differently from each other, and differently from a plain fixed drawdown. Enter your account's own rules below and see exactly where your floor sits right now, and how much buffer is actually left before a violation.

Your account rules

The maximum dollar amount your equity is allowed to fall from its peak (trailing) or from your starting size (fixed) before the account is in violation.
The highest equity your account has reached so far. If you haven't traded yet, this is the same as your account size.
Your account's equity right now.
If your firm freezes a rising trailing floor once it reaches a certain level, enter that level here. Leave blank if your firm has no lock.

Your result

Drawdown floor

$48,000.00

Buffer remaining

$2,000.00

Your floor trails your high-water mark of $50,000.00 minus your $2,000.00 max drawdown, which puts it at $48,000.00 right now. It will keep rising as you set new highs.

Frequently asked questions

A fixed drawdown floor never moves -- it sits at your starting account size minus the max drawdown, no matter how the account trades. A trailing drawdown floor rises as your account hits new equity highs, and typically never comes back down even if you give profit back. Most funded evaluations trail; a shrinking number of accounts stay fixed. Check your own firm's agreement -- the two produce very different real buffers on the same account size and drawdown dollar figure.

Several firms stop a trailing floor from rising once the account reaches a certain equity level -- often once the floor would rise past the original starting balance. After that point the floor freezes at that locked level for good, even if the account keeps making new highs. If your firm does this, enter that equity level as the trail-lock threshold; leave it blank if your firm has no such lock and the floor should keep trailing indefinitely.

The highest account equity you have reached so far, including any open profit if your firm counts intraday highs (rather than only closing balances). This is the number a trailing floor is measured against -- your floor sits a fixed dollar amount below whichever your account's highest point has been, not below where the account happens to be right now.

Not yet -- this calculator runs entirely on the numbers you enter, with no firm-specific presets built in. That is deliberate: prop firm rules and dollar figures change, differ by account size and evaluation stage, and getting a hardcoded number wrong is worse than asking you to enter your own. Pull the exact figures from your account agreement or firm dashboard, enter them here, and the math is the same either way.

Futures trading contains substantial risk and is not for every investor. This calculator is for illustration only — it does not guarantee your firm's actual determination of a drawdown breach. Confirm your account's exact rules against your firm's own agreement. Full risk disclosures.
